Happy Chinese New Year恭賀新禧!

Dear family and friends,
Happy Chinese New Year! We have not written
an annual newsletter in Hong Kong for 2 years!
2011 has been a wonderful year. For Doris,
her body slowly recovered. She is delighted to have hair on her head, although
it is now much thinner. Her life-style has changed, exercising daily and eating
as healthy as possible, which requires much effort! As a full-time faculty
member at University of Macau, she wants to pick up work in full steam but learns
that she does not have to be a compulsive achiever. She still has fears about
recurrence of cancer and gets jittery at the slightest physical ailments. The
Lord allows this so that she learns to live day by day and commit all her plans
into the hands of God. Doris enjoys
serving the Lord even more – teaching Sunday school, doing workshops, running
support groups, etc. It is a real privilege to serve Him and indeed it is our
purpose of living – to love God and serve Him.
For Victor, he left China Bible Seminary
after 3 years of full-time teaching and joined GETS [創欣神學院], a seminary based in the United States that focuses on seminary training
overseas. He deeply appreciates the opportunity to teach students from all
walks of life in different parts of world – he loves teaching folks the skills
to study the Word of God. As for local pastoral ministries, Victor is
privileged to serve at 播導會恩福堂 (www.yanfook.org.hk)
focusing on teaching and training ministries. You can find some of his
preaching on this webpage. He is still a volunteer pastor for North Point
Alliance Church’s (www.npac.org) English
Congregation. So he is having the best of both worlds and enjoying both teaching
and pastoral ministries fully.
We went back to U.S. in August and enjoyed three
full weeks, taking care of various businesses after having been overseas. It is
such a delight to visit our previous church Riverside Chinese Alliance Church
and Monterey Park Baptist Church. Doris was delighted to see that the RCAC kids
have grown but was sad that she had missed out major parts of their growing up.
Victor was delighted to be back at MPBC – he delivered a sermon from the bottom
of his heart to encourage brothers and sisters he had ministered to in his
early 30s. We all have grown old but praise God we all have grown spiritually.
Victor and Doris delight in the birth of their “first baby” – we worked
on a book together on couples in the Bible. It includes Victor’s 19 sermons on
couples, their bible study materials and Doris’ input as a psychologist. The
book title is 奇異姻典 (Amazing Marriage). Indeed we feel
that our marriage is entirely based on His amazing grace. Particularly we
praise God that our marriage becomes stronger after Doris’ battle with cancer.

In this New Year, we pray for a new home in
Ma Wan, our beloved Island in Hong Kong. We asked God for good health and
stamina to serve Him fervently in different capacities. Doris prays
particularly for diligence to share Christ in Macau. She looks forward to
teaching a course at China Graduate School of Theology this semester and will
seek to be a freelance therapist at a local agency in Sheung Wan. Do remember
us in your prayer!
Love in Christ,
Victor & Doris
